For over 50; years the BMC Technical Commitee and its predecessor, the Equipment Sub-Committee, have been issuing safety advice and investigating occurrences of failed equipment. Over that time a great body of knowledge has been bulit up and over 300 investigative reports have been written. During the same period of time several members of the technical committee have been deeply involved with others in genertating UIAA and EN standards for moutaineering equipment.
This booklet aims to bring together the lessons learnt in those investigations, the knowledge of standards and key advice from manufacturers, and to become an essential reference for anyone owning or using moutaineering and climbing equipment.
