£19.99

£17.99

Providers of outdoor education must strike the right balance between adventure and security. Effective risk management enables providers to deliver lasting educational value without breaching their moral and legal duties of care.

This practical guide shows how genuinely adventurous outdoor activities can be provided to acceptable standards of safety. Drawing on the author's own experience as an expert mountaineer and instructor, the systems and processes of successful outdoor adventure are clearly explained using real life examples and case studies.

Bob Barton

Bob Barton is safety adviser to the Outward Bound Trust, a post that includes responsibility for all safety reviews and acting as secretary to the Risk Management Committee, chaired by Chris Bonington.

Bob started to climb while at school and graduated in science from Cambridge University. After a short period as a physics teacher he felt the call of the hills and moved to work as a tutor at Brathay Hall, an organisation that shares with Outward Bound® much of its ethos concerning personal development through the outdoors.
