Ordering

Do you deliver to alternate addresses?

Yes. During checkout, just press ‘edit’ and change the shipping address.

How can I find out if something is in stock?

We regularly update our product information and out-of-print items are removed from the shop. If you’d like to check availability of any item please contact us.

How do I cancel an order?

If you change your mind about any part of an order, you can cancel it by contacting us – please have your order details to hand. Our office is open 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. Alternatively, email shop@thebmc.co.uk, including your order details and full name and address.

How do I know that you have received my order?

Once you place an order you’ll receive a confirmation email from us. If you don’t receive this email within 12 hours, please check your spam filter and contact us to check that there are no problems.

Am I charged for items as soon as I order them?

Yes, we charge your card when the order is placed. If any products aren’t available, we’ll email you to let you know the expected delivery time and refund any costs.

How do I get the BMC members’ discount?

Members of the BMC (British Mountaineering Council) get up to 10% off most products. This applies to members of the MCofS (Mountaineering Council of Scotland), MCI (Mountaineering Council of Ireland), BMC Affiliate Members and members of BMC affiliated clubs. To get the discount just enter your membership number (or club name) in the required field at checkout.

How to join the BMC?

Find out more and join the BMC here. At present we are unable to allocate you a membership number online at time of joining. So if you want to take advantage of the members’ discount, please join online now and at the shop checkout enter ‘joined online’ in the membership number field.

Delivery

How long does delivery take?

If purchased on a weekday, your order will be delivered to your door within 3 - 4 days; if purchased at the weekend within 5 – 6 days. On occasion, there may be a small delay if items are out of stock. You’ll receive a confirmation email when your goods are ready to be delivered.

How much is delivery?

How will my parcel be delivered?

We deliver everything by Royal Mail Second Class. If you’re not home when the Royal Mail call (and it won’t fit through your letterbox) they’ll leave a calling card with a Post Office address where you can collect the package. If the package is not collected with in a month, the items will be delivered back to the BMC.

Can I return the items?

We hope that shopping with the BMC will be trouble free, but occasionally you may want to return items, please see our returns page for full details.

What should I do if an item is missing?

If part of your order is out of stock, we’ll despatch the items that are available first – the rest will be despatched once it arrives in our office. You’ll not be charged any extra postage. Your delivery advice note will tell you which items should be in your parcel – if any appear to be missing please contact us.

What should I do if I receive the wrong item?

Please contact us and we’ll order a replacement or exchange the item. Please see our returns page for details of how to return items.

Will my order be delayed if some items are out of stock?

No, if part of your order is delayed we’ll send the available items as soon as possible. The delayed items will be sent out as soon as they arrive in our office – at no extra cost.

How do I change my personal details?

If you’ve used our shop before, click on ‘My Account’ to login and view your details. You can easily amend your name, address, telephone number and email address.

How do I know my credit card and other personal details are secure?

No credit card information is stored on our web server, it must be re-entered for every transaction at our payment site (Protx). All pages with personal information are transmitted securely using SSL encryption. You can tell that the data is encrypted as the address in your browser will change from http:// to https:// and a small padlock icon will appear in your browser window.
